Flexible pipes
The exhaust resonator pipe is a flexible pipe section that allows for certain flexibility in the exhaust system. Flexible hoses are an essential part of every front-wheel drive vehicle and most all-wheel drive vehicles. In front-wheel drive cars, the engine is transversely mounted and when the engine starts, the flexible pipe protects the exhaust system from breakage. Without a flexible hose, the rocking motion would subject the exhaust system to continuous stress, increasing the risk of damage.
